Hearing Loss Prevention

In 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported the increasing number of people using personal audio devices and the everlasting effect that it could have on one’s hearing. In addition to the popularity of fitness classes, nightclubs, music venues, and sporting events that cause excessive noise exposure in recreational settings has become a problem for all ages.

Guidelines To Protect Your Hearing

  • Be aware of unsafe listening levels and keep a good distance from the sound source.
  • Limit the time spent in excessively noisy environments because there is a direct correlation between the decibel level and the time exposed to the noise.
  • Lower the volume and limit the daily use of headphones and personal audio devices (smartphones and MP3 players).
  • Wear earplugs and protect your hearing.
  • Although the effects of noise exposure may not be noticeable immediately the damage is irreversible and 100% preventable
FOR HEADPHONE USERS
  • Choose noise-canceling headphones to hear the music more clearly, reducing the preferable volume to a lower and safer listening level.
  • Over-the-ear headphones are good at canceling noise and will be less damaging to the ear.
  • Reduce the maximum volume level of your device to listen safely for a longer period
  • Consider custom-fitted earphones to hear your conversations more clearly, be more comfortable, and are less likely to fall out.

FOR MUSICIANS

  • Use musician earplugs which are specifically made for musicians playing a variety of instruments and are available in several types of materials such as foam or soft plastic to enable the musician to still hear the music being performed
  • Use electronic ear plugs that can be programmed to adjust to different pitches and sounds depending on the loudness and environment the musician is in, allowing them to hear the sounds that are important while filtering out damaging noise levels.
  • Use in-ear monitors which are high-tech devices used by musicians or audio engineers, delivering sound to the ear while creating a barrier to the background and damaging noise levels.
Musician earplugs and protection aren’t simply designed for individuals in a band, they can also be beneficial to a number of different people, including:
Students in the school band or orchestra
Music teachers or conductors
Concert or festival attendees
Nightclub workers or patrons
Entertainment industry staff
Construction Workers
